Michael Corinthos was shot—in the head—and may never wake up again. And for what? Well, if it were up to Bob Guza Jr, GH head writer, we would all believe this 12-year-old boy was shot as a consequence of his recent playing with guns. But we know better, don’t we, loyal GH watcher— we know that this poor boy is not paying the consequence of his stupid choice to buy a gun; instead, he is paying for the sins of his father, Sonny. I watched General Hospital when I was a college student during the 70s and then began watching it again when we bought a Dish TV in the late 90s so that I could record it and watch it when I came home from work. As far as soaps go, I received pleasure from watching the characters weave their webs and make peace with themselves. No dilemma was severe enough for the characters to find a solution.
However, I think that I’ve met my limit. All the senseless violence has upset me so. I even had bad dreams about this week’s action. My husband told me that I shouldn’t watch programs that would interfere with my sleep. I think that he is right. I’ve read this web site for about a year now. I cannot believe that writers would write story plots based on the actor instead of the character. (I must add that this site is not as user friendly as the site for ‘One Life to Live’.)

Well as a Jason fan from day 1, I am glad he lost Sam. I think it is one of his worse pairings when she was passed over to him like a platter of crackers from his boss and parked herself in his spare room.
But didn’t she dump him? She didn’t try to work things out regarding his child she chose the revenge destructo route she arranged to have his kid hijacked and saw him being kidnapped. She lurked,stalked and she planned to be with Lucky to get back at Jason and Elizabeth; oops that’s right, silly me she loves Lucky and that makes it all better now. Afterall it only took about 4 eppys..
I can’t say I’m sorry she dumped him she blubbered for years and every sentence of dialog had his name in it. She had no identity, wasn’t well defined outside of Jason Morgan and she’ still hobbling around him fetching him coffee.
As for losing Elizabeth I don’t know that just yet as it hasn’t finished playing out on my screen.
But I fully agree with you regarding this macabre depressing storyline of a kid getting shot in the head…doesn’t make much for love in my afternoon. I find it extremely, violent, disturbing and depressing to say the least.
Since they gave Jr. carte blanche to ruin my 45 year old show I’m not surprised that he’s doing it. He doesn’t seem to respect fans or this genre of storytelling. I find his scribing very disturbing the man clearly has issues.
i love all the violance on gh sonny is at his best when he is out for revenge i think that the metro crisis was one of the best episodes on gh and as long as sonnny and jason family’s are shooting people i wiil be watching
You are wrong on this. What made GH a fun show has turnd to depressing drivel. The campiness has gone and in its place is murder, shooting, blah blah blah. Enough is enough. The show needs to lighten up and return to its roots.
GH was an enjoyable soap to watch The antics of the Q family. Sonny & Luke days-Sonny & Jason antics & some of the humor between Sonny Jason & Luke. I ejoyed the moments between Robin with Sonny & with Jason. Carly & Jax are great together. Diane & Alexa are funny together I also enjoyed the loving moments with Rick & Alexa when ever it came to them being together due to the children.Spinelli with Jason -Sonny & Maxie are funny & great. Lets bring back the adventure - the fun & romance-lets stop the violence- kills & blood shed. thank you
There was a time when this show was at the top in content now it seems to be scratching at pitiful, slow moving desparate plots.
Every week there is some new tired used up actress or actor that can’t carry the part. First of all no Don would ve out and about as much as sonny without guards who would follow him in spite of himself. Everyone around Sonny appears to be distracted and all the women he gets involved with all losers. Carly is just pathetic as a parent and as a friend. 1. Give the characters stronger personalities. In real life when you smack someone it is time to get busy.
2. Give sonny some real bodyguards who look and act the part. Jason is the only person on the show that plays his part yet we do not see more of him. He is getting weak.
3. The show needs some tight action and some comflict. Maybe a new writer with a background like mine and who has had some spice in their career would help.
4. The fashions are to predictable add some jeans, why are the these young people dressing like grandmothers everyday.
5. There needs to be a more professional behavior in that hospital and more sneaking around to do the supposed antics and not at the fron desk.
Last you need some real attitudes. Most of these characters are alleycats let them show it. They have become laughable. The Jax guy is just plain punked by the piece of trash wife. Add some reality to give it some punch
It is a soap opera! What would we watch it for if Sonny and Jason weren’t getting away with something. That’s what makes it good. Of course I feel sorry for Michael but just like everyone else, eventually he will come out of coma and be alright.
I’ve been watching GH since the glory days of Luke and Laura in the 70’s. What used to be a show of romance, humor and adventure is now dour and dark, with violence and death. It’s not a fun one-hour escape anymore; it’s mostly depressing and frustrating. They’ve marginalized or fired the great veteran actors; the few bright spots (Alexis & Diane; Spinelli & Maxie; Tracy & Luke; the Q’s) are minimally used; and I want to slap most of the female characters who get the most screen time (Sam, Carly, LuLu). Guza does not seem to understand the genre or his audience. They need to rehire Claire LeBine–she knew how to write a terrific storyline with engrossing characters and great dialogue.
Though I agree with Amy, let’s not forget that Sonny is the father that Carly forced on her son. Michael is not only paying for Sonny’s sins, but his mothers as well.
welllllll.. again i stoped watching it for a week and or more and just to ck it out its still the same …. as it never ends, and now michale welllll is this kid live or die now and take the kid off the show if thats the case or let him make the remarakable recovery over the weekend and come mon hes opening the eyes and remmbers all ok wel isnt that the way it works, yes this gh needs changes and not to all the dead ppl. if they want off then take them off a nice way this killing sucks and it has for yrs, and im so sick every time u turn it on, so now im not watching it like a few said i dont need to loose sleep over a stupid tvshow. but its true, anyways, this gh needs this writer to think of his fans, well can see thats not happening i have turned to that hr of gh into another show of”watching” and its a much better one by far and no soaps, yes its a soap. but u know the soaps can go oboard as well. ok thats my comments, and again are we fan wasting our time as i dont think they even know we are writing comments, what do you think? do they see what we say here for the actors sake, well ,ok wait and see, i guess.
I quit watching GH months ago when the only way they can solve problems is to kill people. We have enough of this in the world with out having to watch it over and over and over on TV. All we have to do is watch the news and we’ll see mass killings. Bye bye GH until you lighten up
Once again some of your facts are wrong or slanted to make your view work. Either way you lose me when you begin to “make up” arguments to support your view.
Sonny’s mother didn’t die because of the mob, she died because years of abuse she put her small child through because she wasn’t woman enough to leave Deke after watching him abuse her son. You want to know why Sonny is doing what he is doing? He is paying the consequences of having a spineless mother who let him be abused and a worthless father who ran out on him. Sonny had no one he could turn to and was vulenerable to the enviornment around him. He sought out the very men Deke hated in hopes of freeing himself from Deke.
Mike isn’t out of Sonny’s life because of the mob. Mike chose to leave Sonny when he was a child. He was a dead beat dead not only to Sonny but to Courtney as well.
Sam didn’t lose her baby because of the mob. Sam lost her baby due to a medical condition that had nothing to do with the mob. How many times must the doctors at GH tell Sam and some of her rabid fans that? And Sam lost Jason because she slept with Ric, and then couldn’t deal when Jason had a baby by another woman. Instead she chose to target innocent children.
Jason isn’t losing Liz or Jake or anyone else because of Sonny. Jason is a grown man capable of making his own choices. He chose to continue to be in the mob therefore it is his fault not Sonny’s if he loses anything.
Ric is to blame for his own pain. He came to town with a vindette against an unsuspecting Sonny and began to try to ruin Sonny’s life. Ric chose to believe it was Sonny, instead of his mob lover Faith, that pushed Liz down the stairs. In believing that he kidnapped Carly and abused her during her pregnancy. Again, a grown man making his own choices. He continued to want to “one up” or “get even with” Sonny. That is on Ric, not Sonny. Ric should get down on his knees and thank Sonny for not killing him, for all he has done to Sonny.
Alexis and Carly made the choices to be with Sonny. Made the choices to bear his children. They are grown women, those choices and any subsequent shootings they have to suffer or be a part of are of their own choosing. Same with Kate.
And Sonny lost Courtney? A virus, which had nothing to do with the mob is what took Courtney’s life.
Why is it, you negate the choices of grown adult individuals to sell your point? And Sonny didn’t leave Michael “vulnerable”. Michael was ten feet away out of the line of fire. He was hit by a richochet. Sonny could never have made it to “cover” Michael because Michael wasn’t in the line of fire he was too far away.
Yes, Sonny is a mobster. Yes, he should pay for his crimes. But he isn’t the devil incarnate responsible for all the adults around him who choose poorly. Nor is he responsible for half the “crimes” you listed.
I wish G.H. would tell stories about something like THE WAR IN IRAQ! THEY have the perfect oppertunity with LOGAN! THEY could write about the aftereffects of WAR,when a soldier comes back home and has to deal with the memories of what he did,saw,and what happened to him.I think JOSH DUHON IS AGREAT ACTOR,and he could pull off that story perfectly,but I DON”T THInk BOB GUZA WANTS TO WRITE ABOUT IRAQ! I DON”T THINK HE IS SMART ENOUGH TO WRITE ABOUT ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE MOB!
it’s easy for carly to blame sonny for everything but where was she when the gun was in michaels room. minding everyones business but her own in jason & liz’s business. she could blame jason but she needs to blame herselfcenterdness. jax blames sonny but doesn’t see jerrys part in it [why is he still getting away with stuff] the best thing that could have happened was that carly lost the baby she didn’t need another kid to ignore now what about morgan good thing they have a nanny or they’d be on the street. carly is useless when is she going to leave the show. i think tv have seen enuf carly’s 2 on gh now 1 on days. are they no more actors around i’m sick of them. love jason & spenilli love logan & lulu what’s happening there
i love this actor who plays michael he’s grown into his age beautifully it would be a mistake to get rid of him it won’t be the same i left days b/c storms left i’ll only stay with gh for her & steve.
I feel bad for Michael and in some part for his parents.They didnt want him ever hurt but they hurt him most of all by letting him get by with eveything and never taking responsobility for any actions he took even to becoming a mini me mobster…I hate that they are suppose to be aging the character and would do this to a kid..it would be nice to just once let the kid grow into adulthood on his own..I hope Michael survives but it would be even more stupid on writers to think he even could recover this kind of head trauma..lets keep it real for a change or dont do it at all..sometimes I think the writers are all the nutcases out there..But after all it is just a soap-a story -Thats all.I love Sonny and Jason and all the excitement but please leave the kids out of it..
i cannot believe they had michael shot thats just not even nice..and why are they aging him he is the best michael ever… I loved watching the action years ago i was on the edge of my seat back in the luke laura and cassidine days but now its shoot sonny and his family wheres the joy in that..No suspense like years ago..like freezing a city stuff that we can enjoy now were shooting kids thats just sick
I read negative comments about gh on every board. When will TIIC get a clue that the fans are fed up! Also, just to clear up this ridiculous Sam bashing. She didn’t get pregnant with Sonny’s child on purpose. She did not want to entrap Sonny. She wanted leave town. She wanted to give the child up for adoption. She also considered abortion. JASON STOPPED HER. She didn’t ask to live with Jason. HE wanted it. HE wanted to help raise Sonny’s child. JASON insisted on Sam and him getting married (before they even liked each other) for the sake of the baby. Sam was shot…well after the death of the baby, left unable to have children again. Jason broke it off with Sam while she was recovering in the hospital from being shot. He left her to keep her safe. Jason made a deal with Alexis that he would stay away. Their entire downfall was a direct result of his actions. Sam began to self destruct. She could not imagine her life without Jason. BTW, the writers had to think of something really BIG to break JASAM up. Sooooo, they had her witness the kidnapping. Of course, it was horrible. Of course, that was a big enough thing to break them up..BUT, just to put the icing on the cake, the writers decided to have Sam pull the stunt in the park with the fake gunmen. So ridiculous. Then..they set Sam on the revenge path. Afterall, they had to make sure all the JASAM fans were dead in the water and bring on the “lovahs”..called Liason. What a fake relationship! He’s loved her all along! Even SONNY knew how important Sam was to Jason. Even CARLY knew how important Sam was to Jason. Even MONICA knew how important Sam was to Jason (told Sam…Jason has never been happier in his life). But, Elizabeth also knew how important Sam was to Jason. Sonny is getting exactly what he deserves. He and Carly and Jason stole Michael from A.J. to give him a better life. Some life!!! It’s sickening that a 12 yr. boy has to pay for the sins of others.
In a strange way it’s come full circle finally. Although AJ isn’t around to see it.All those involved with stealing Michael away from Aj are getting there just deserts. Nothing will change as long as Jr is in charge. I watch maybe twice a week to check on Robin whose past storyline has a special place in my heart as does Maxie.
If GH really wanted to be shocking they’d kill off Sonny or send him and Jason to jail. GH could start is road back to great soap telling by ending the mob story lines, killing of Michael would be a great start. His death would be spring board. Bring back Bobbi, Scotty, Felicia, Mac. Reach back into GH history and bring back Tiffany & Sean, a few of Monica’s affairs would help spice it up. Throw Tracy Back into the mix. Keep Alan’s ghost around bring back Emily (new actress please) and Georgie (original actress). Build Carly & Jax into something more then a side dish for Sonny. Give Robin & Patrick the attention they deserve. Bring Elizabeths family into the fold starting with her father.
GH can be fixed and the fans would forgive a few things but first you have to start with TPTB who care.
Your wrong. I love watching GH. I just love the Sonny and Jason scenes. They are my two favorite people. To me they are the reason why i watch it. GH does have some good storys and then some not so good. But when it comes to the mob story lines, I’m just glued to the tv. If you ask me Claudia is to blame for michaels shooting. Because Sonny wanted a truce between the families and she wanted him dead. It’s her fault.
