Next Hot Topic on 'GH' May Be Euthanasia

Rumors are floating around the Internet that General Hospital may tackle the topic of euthanasia down the line.

Attached to this rumor is one that actress Lara Parker, formerly of Dark Shadows, will be the subject for the controversy while a patient in the hospital.

I will only say, how absolutely depressing. I remember Lara Parker when she was a sweet young thing on shows like Police Woman.

Any topic which brings the show back to the hospital and away from the mob gets my vote. I’d have preferred a stem cell or nanotech subject, but I’ll take this.

Wow! A real issue-oriented storyline. I’ll believe it when I see it. Can the writers get away from the mob even for one episode? I would enjoy an euthanasia storyline, something poignant and real, and anything that would get Lara Parker back on the screen would be an added bonus. Hope this storyline comes to fruition.

Did they not do this story line on Night Shift? They already have so many characters that need air time. I miss Luke already, and would love to see more Helena.

I think this is a great idea, I hope it’s true. It’s a story that is for sure controversial and it will involve doctors and the hospital…and not necessarily the mob. Sounds good to me!

I see exactly what this storyline will be.
A patient is in extreme pain and Robin after almost every remedy has been exhausted says, “We have to do the humane thing and let this poor woman die without any more pain.” Patrick says,”No, there is a new procedure that has a 10% chance of saving her.”
The patients’ relatives at first want to save her but Patrick operation just makes things worse.Robin then gives the patient this new drug that takes away the patients pain and keeps her alive for 48 hours until all her family members can say good-bye.
Once again the amazing Robin saves the day and euthanasia/assisted suicide is a great thing for anybody when a great humanitarian says, it’s time to pull the plug.
My cousin was in a coma. The doctors, in the real GH, wanted his wife to agree to less agreessive treatment that would keep him in a coma and then the plug would be eventually pulled. She didn’t agree and eventually he came out of the coma and was able to see both his daughters get married. Every case is different and they should be judged accordingly.
How do I know this storyline is going to happen?
I’m just looking at the writers record.
1) Lulu no remorse or sorrow over her abortion.
2) Every soldier that comes back to PC from Iraq is a criminal.
3) The only capable law enforcer in Port Charles is Jason.
4) The FBI wanted to railroad Spinelli.
5) The company that used Aunt, whatever her name was, invention to save American soldiers was evil. After all, who would want to save those soldiers who came back to Port Charles.
6) Anybody can be euthanized as long as their not under contract because it’s the right thing to do.

What is euthanesia?

(9) Barb says:

Euthanasia is mercy killing. A typical example would be a patient who is expected to die within a few days and who is in uncontrollable pain being given an overdose of pain medication so that they die more quickly and in less pain than not giving a pain overdose.

It is not merely “pulling the plug” on a machine keeping somebody alive, but acting to end life. It’s murder to help the victim.

Aside from the religiou, legal, and moral objections, euthanasia raises the ugly possibility of an heir (legatee) speeding the up death of a legator to get their money.
