In order to save money, General Hospital will not be filming for two weeks in July, and the rumor is that there are going to be heavy rewrites taking place. The actors have been filming more scenes every day to make up for the days the show will close down.
Is this plan a good thing or a bad thing? Don't know.
Ratings have been down for ABC, and evidently NBC News asked the Nielsen people to give the ratings another look. As a result, ABC World News Tonight found 800,000 viewers that weren't reported. It's been suggested that ABC Daytime ought to start questioning their ratings as well. Ratings for the ABC soaps, by the way, do not take into account SoapNet viewings. From Twitter, it can be gleaned that a lot of people watch their soaps on SoapNet in the evening.

I have really liked seeing the new kids, they are great. Some changes would be nice. It’s hard watching Sonny do the same things over and over. Is it just me or does he/Sonny and Claudia have about the same relationship he had with her when she played Carly? His treatment of her reminds me of that. I hate how he treats her!
I think it’s great if they are going to close up to save $$ and for some rewrites. I think GH has been on a promising path the past month or so. The dialogue has been better as well as the overall writing. It does not seem so mob heavy. The addition of new Michael has been great because the casting was amazing. That young guy is a great actor and has brought some real dimension to Michael’s recovery. I’m also loving Kristina. I think she’s adorable and reminds me of a unique blend of Maxie and Georgie.
I think it’s disappointing that SoapNet viewings aren’t counted. How do you become a Nielson household? I DVR GH every day off of ABC and watch when I get home from work in the evenings and on weekends. I find it ridiculous that we live in a world with such advanced technology but 800,000 viewers were not counted for a program. If that’s happening to Soaps that needs to be remedied.
As far as the above comment, I don’t like the way Sonny treats Claudia either. However, he calls her out on the things he thinks she may have done and she really did do. I think Sarah Brown has been given some really great material recently. Her portrayal of Claudia does remind me of the early days of Carly but I think that’s because she’s written as very similar character. Aside from the mob connections Carly and Claudia are very similar women which is part of the reason the bump heads and dislike each other so much. I also love the scenes of Claudia and Olivia. I’ve been so happy with the recent development of the Claudia character, it really is the best story she’s been given so far (IMO) and it makes me hope she sticks around for a while!
The shut down is ok I guess if it helps the show. I have been enjoying recent plots lately. Claudia’s character is putting herself in a corner, as is she isn’t in enough trouble already. Can Johnnie be like Jason as a fix it character? I love the scene where Johnnie and Jason were going in for their hit. Johnnie worrying how to find the road was so funny.
This is definitely a good thing. It’s about time that ABC and GH started fixing their ridiculous writing and storylines. Maybe they’ll get writers who can actually pen interesting and exciting stories without killing off veteran/legacy characters. As a long time viewer, I really hate what this show has become and how it has shattered the history and integrity of its characters. It’s a disgrace, which is why I thought it funny that ABC spent so much money on its new hi-def set.
I hope the shutting down for the two weeks will get the writers time to come up with some new pairings and also let some of the veterans have more screen time. They are wasting Liz’s character. And they are turning Lucky into the same jerk he was while on drugs. Nick and Rebecca…………not doing it for me.
I record GH from Soapnet because every week just about there is a High speed chase,a bank robbery or something somewhere else in the world happens that the news station interrupt it. Then it’s always during the really good episodes. I always wait until Saturday to watch them all then I get that big disapointment. They should count soapnet’s ratings too.
I don’t think anything will help GH, short of replacing Bob and Jill with people who care about the show. GH doesn’t care about its viewers or the show’s history. They ruined Luke and Laura? for what? Ethan? He would have been a great character as a Scorpio, Robert and Holly’s, but now he’s just the reason Luke and Laura were ruined and the reason Holly’s past was messed with.
GH just recycles stories over and over. No one cares, why should the viewers?
Well, hopefully, something half-way decent will happen during all this. Once they get a DNA on Claudias’ baby, then maybe her and Sonny can get their attitudes in checked. And, once they finally do something with Ric Lansing. Good Lord, just give him the send off he’s looking for, and “Letitgo” for godsake. Just curious what he has to do with the mayor wife??? What are they cooking up, eh?
Nothing short of getting rid of Frons, Phelps and Guza will save this show. It continues to ignore it’s fans (the “training” isn’t working) and instead of love in the afternoon we get sex, violence and mob, mob, mob. People have complained for YEARS that they are tired of it. Will they listen? Jill and Bob won’t. ABC needs to hire some NEW peoplw.
GH needs Gloria Monty back. I came across two old tapes I had from the mid 80’s and mid nineties and what a difference. The stories had color and the characters were those you felt a bond too. And the humor was always there. I miss Lynn Herring a lot. Lucy made GH so much fun and she brought the out comedic talent in her peers. The other thing I noticed was that the sets were a lot more lively and colorful. More people bustling about. Today the sets are dark, depressing. Bring on the fun stuff the things that bring the viewers back each day.
