Greg Vaughan Discusses His Firing

Greg Vaughan tells interviewer Michael Fairman that being fired from General Hospital was a shock, but he's philosophical about it. Vaughan states that he was summoned to the office of the executive producer and prepared himself for several scenarios. Either he would be fired, put on recurring, or he was getting a new story - the latter being a very distant possibility, since news of a story is not usually delivered in that manner.

Vaughan had felt for some time that he was on thin ice. However, he believes that everything happens for a reason. Though he'll miss the cast of GH and the character of Lucky, a role he's played since 2003, he's looking forward to new opportunities. He's bound to get them, too.

Greg is my very favorite soap star. I will no longer be watching GH. The way they went about releasing Greg was cruel. I feel GH has been made a huge mistake. I wish Greg the best of everything in the future, and hope to see him a a prime time show very soon. I will be following his future endeavors.

I think Greg Vaughan did a great job on General Hospital, but he is not Lucky Spencer and he never truly owned the character in my mind. Jonathan Jackson is Lucky Spencer and is the only actor who should be in that role (until proven otherwise, b/c I don’t think Jacob Young brought anything special to the character either).

Sarah Brown was phenomenal as Carly and when she left her shoes were just as tough to fill. GH managed to find Tamara Braun and Laura Wright who have both been able to fill those huge shoes and make the character their own as well as win over the audience. Jennifer Bransford’s 6 month stint on the show proved how tough a role it was to recast after being so successful with Sarah Brown and Tamara Braun.

Unfortunately they never found someone to bring the same magic to the character of Lucky as they had with Jonathan Jackson. I am sorry for Greg Vaughan but I am ecstatic that the original Lucky is back. I have not been a fan of Liz and Lucky since his departure, but upon his return I look forward to any story involving the two of them together.

I agree totally with barbara. As of now, I video tape the show and fast forward through most of it. It is sad when people are fired to make way for someone who will not stay long in the role. Jonathan Jackson seems very smug.

Jonathan Jackson is Lucky! So glad he will be returning. Previously, he was so much like Luke that I cannot see him playing a cop. Maybe a profession is ahead.

I agree with everyone who said that Jonathan Jackson owned this role. He nailed the nuances of this character as a mere boy. You know he’s going to knock it out of the park as a man.

He is and always will be Lucky Spencer. There is NO other.

Welcome home, Cowboy. It’s been way too long.

I think it is a terrible thing they have done with Greg Vaughn. He is way better with this character than Jonathan Jackson is or ever will be. I wish Greg Vaugh all the best as he certainly deserves it. He is a terrific actor. He will be truely missed.

What is the point in bringing JJ back when GV was doing a marvelous job with the script he was given? GH should be careful of how they are treating their actors. Not being taken so well by long time viewers. I have watched this show since the 70’s and don’t remember JJ being so fantastic.

Sorry to see GV go and wish him well..
It is sad when a network firies someone because they want to bring back anoather person who once played the roll as JJ did. I really loved GV as Lucky but will enjoy watching JJ again..

I feel sorry for Greg. He IS Lucky Spencer. Jonathan Jackson is so boyish looking and does NOT fit the part anymore. He should have just stayed gone!!!!!!

Has GV been there since 1993? I hadn’t thought so. I thought it had only been 4 or 5 years or so, certainly not 16!

(18) generalhospital says:

Sorry, that’s a typo that’s been corrected. The CHARACTER of Lucky debuted in 1993. Vaughan joined the show in 2003. Sorry.

(19) Maria says:

Well, I’m of two minds about this. I like Greg Vaughan very much. I happen to think that he will do very well now that he is free of GH.

People say Jonathan Jackson is too boyish. He was the original Lucky, and Lucky was boyish. I always thought Greg was too mature for the part.

As far as Greg being fired, I’m afraid that soap operas are just like any other business in America -cold and mean. I think it’s lousy to fire someone after years of hard work and building a fan base, but this seems to be the way it goes. Greg Vaughan I’m sure has seen it happen many times, and we’re probably all more upset than he is. I do think he’s going to find this a blessing in disguise.

I just want to say I’M sorry to see Greg leave ”LUCKY”
I’ve watched the show since 1979,
i WAS SAD when JJ left the role years ago, but learned to appreciate & love Greg & his work on GH
JJ was great as a teen love for LIZ, but that time is past
Greg was more suited for her now.
I would bet, the producers etc will come to requet there decision to replace Greg in the long run
No offence to JJ…

I thinks this is a raw deal. Greg is the real deal, a great actor, fun to watch and I for one will miss him terribly. Bad move General Hospital. Jackson still looks like a teenager and doesn’t have the maturity Greg did to carry the role!

(23) lee says:

I think when jj left the show he should have stayed where ever he went, like most soap stars they think they have it made only to find out they don’t, Ive only seen him in one other movie since he left. I would never have let Greg Vaughn go. I have been watching General Hospital since the early sixties.

(24) Miss Dawn says:

Greg Vauhgn did an OK job as Lucky, he’s a talented actor, however, that Lucky was a whining, hipocritical baby. The true Lucky will and always be Johnathon Jackson. Let’s hope the fun-loving, tough Lucky comes back. Good Luck Greg! Can’t wait to see you on 90210!

(25) Spike says:

GREG VAUGHN is and will always be LUCKY!!! Jonathan Jackson looks like he is Lulu’s younger brother not her older brother. And Ethan…..Are we really supposed to believe that JJ is older than Lulu and Ethan? Give me a break!!!
I do not like Jackson in the role as Lucky. When he was a kid and played him, that’s cool. But now that he is supposed to be older, his still looks like a kid!!!
Wish they would have never let Vaughn go. I’m sad :(

(26) willy wonka says:

Get real people. Jonathan Jackson had his pinky out while drinking a glass of water on his first episode!!! He is not believable as a cop or as a match for the siren Elizabeth. He is efeminate and his head is too big for his scrawny body. The producers need to admit their mistake, cut Jonathan loose and move on. What woman doesn’t miss Greg?

(27) Dee says:

willy wonka, I’m a woman and I don’t miss Greg Vaughan a single bit nor did I EVER find him attractive! I do, however, find Jonathan Jackson attractive, sexy, self-confident and amazingly talented. The fact is he’s gorgeous to look at, but he’s also a gifted actor/singer/writer and, MOST importantly, he understands Lucky Spencer better than anyone just ups his IT factor for me. For his knowledge of the character ALONE this role belongs to him and always will. The fact that he’s talented enough to pull off Lucky’s pain AND he’s heartbreakingly lovely while he does it? Well…that’s gravy.
