And what about John Stamos? Has he ever been in love?

"I don't think I ever have," he muses. "I thought I was at the time but I wasn't. I don't see anyone serious now. It really wouldn't be fair because my time is so taken up with my work. But as far as dates are concerned, I'd go out every weekend if I could. Janine Turner and I went out for a while but now we're just good friends who enjoy each other's company. I hope I will fall in love someday. I want to get married and have a couple of kids. I just want to be happy. I want to live a normal, Orange County life."

That brings us to the question of Orange County. If any other young actor pulled down a two-year contract on America's #1 daytime drama, you'd figure he'd wave good-bye to mom and pop and head for the bright lights of Hollywood, where he'd inaugurate a 24-hour bachelor pad. Uh, uh. Not John Stamos.

"When I first started coming up to town, doing interviews and small jobs, I couldn't wait to make a move up here because it's a ninety-minute drive. But now I've gotten to see this crazy, insane world of Hollywood with all the weirdos and I'd hate to live here." So John makes the commute and lives in conservative Orange County--the Disneyland capital of the world.

"Hey, don't knock Disneyland," warns John. "It's my all-time favorite hang-out of life. I live right by Disneyland and it's a fun place. It's a great place to take a date, and it's a great place to meet girls and it's safe, too. Believe me, it's a lot more fun that going to a burnt-out party with a lot of drug-addicts sitting around."

So it would appear that a little bit of Disneyland--the land of dreams--has rubbed off on John. His dreams are slowly beginning to come true--and he's received some pointers from his good friend and fellow daytime star, Michael Damian.

"I knew Michael Damian (Danny, Y&R) before he was anybody," exclaims John. "And it's been important to me to see how he's manufactured into a star. Some of what I've seen I've liked and some things I haven't, but the one thing I've learned from Michael is how to treat your fans. When a fan comes up to me I feel so thankful, because if it wasn't for my fans, I'd be in the gutter. " Well, not quite the gutter. Besides, John's success was prophesied long ago by soap opera superstar Tony Geary (Luke, GH).

About a year ago, a friend of mine, Jim Warren, took me down to the set of GH because I thought it would be interesting to go. I met Tony Geary, a very nice guy, and he took me on a tour of the sets and the stage and everything. He took me into the director's booth and said to Phil Sogard who was directing that day, 'See this kid? He's gonna be on the show someday." When I did get the show I thought it was kind of psychic and I reminded Tony of what he'd said, and he laughed and said, 'Sure I knew that. And I know when you're gonna be off the show too!"

Perhaps. But it's unlikely even a psychic as skilled as Tony Geary could see that far into the future. For at the moment, John is attracting an enormous amount of attention and is doing his best to prove his motto of "go one way and go all the way." So he wants to be the best. The chances are against him and it's bound to be a rough climb. But perhaps John Stamos can take some comfort in the words of the wise man who said "The best way to make it to the top is with both feet on the ground."
