Emma Samms

Still sexy after all these years: Emma Samms (Holly) flirts with Jason Thompson (Patrick) on her last return to General Hospital

American Broadcasting Companies, Inc.

Emma Samms is best known as Fallon Carrington Colby, Pamela Sue Martin's replacement on the hit TV show Dynasty. But before then, she was a very popular star of General Hospital as lovely con artist turned good girl Holly Sutton. During her run on General Hospital, Holly was involved with both Luke Spencer and Robert Scorpio, eventually marrying Robert.

Samms was born Emma E. W. Samuelson in Willesden, London, England on August 28, 1960. She was born into a show business family. Her mother was a ballet dancer, and her father owned a rental company for film equipment. Her grandfather, G.B. Samuelson, was a pioneer in British cinema and founded Southall Studios, an early film studio in the United Kingdom. Samms initially trained in ballet, but at the age of 15, she suffered a hip injury and was forced to quit dancing. She was told she would never dance again. She went into acting and shortened her name to Emma Samms.

The Samms family suffered a tragedy when Samms' brother, Jamie, died at the age of 9 from aplastic anemia. As a response to this, Samms and her cousin, Peter Samelson, founded the Starlight Children's Foundation in 1983, a group that helps ill children and their families through a variety of methods: entertainment, education, and activities geared toward families.

After acting in several TV movies (More Wild Wild West, Goliath Awaits) and a miniseries (Ellis Island), Samms landed the role of Holly Sutton on General Hospital, a role she played from 1982 to 1985. She became immensely popular on the show, and also in demand as an actress on other shows. She was offered a TV movie about actress Elizabeth Taylor, based on the book by Kitty Kelly, but she said at the time she wasn't sure that she will do it. The film was not produced at that time. She also received offers to appear in Playboy, but she declined. When Dynasty came calling, “Holly” supposedly died in a plane crash.

Samms replaced Pamela Sue Martin as Fallon beginning with the fifth season finale in 1985. She then went into The Colbys, the Dynasty spinoff, as Fallon. She returned to Dynasty in 1987 and stayed until the show's end in 1989. In 1991, she appeared in the Dynasty reunion miniseries.

Holly Returns and Returns and Returns

In 1992, Holly rose from the plane crash rubble and returned to General Hospital for a season, playing not only Holly but her half-sister Paloma. The series Models Inc. followed, a BBC series Holby City, and a daytime BBC show, The Doctors, as well as TV movies and appearances on Mike Hammer, The Bill, Murder, She Wrote, Lois & Clark, Tales from the Crypt, among others. In 2006, she again returned to Port Charles as Holly. More work in Britain followed. In 2009, Holly made it to Port Charles again, this time with the admission that she gave birth to Luke's son Ethan (Nathan Parsons).

Personal Life and Emma Samms Today

Samms most recently appeared in a London musical revue, Shall We Dance, at the Sadler's Wells Theatre, and she danced for the first time in 32 years. On June 11 of this year, she played cricket for charity.

Samms today lives in England and is concentrating on writing. In 1998, one of her scripts, His Bodyguard, was produced for television. Married three times, Samms was also involved with her GH costar Tristan Rogers (in 1984) and was briefly engaged to composer/pianist Marvin Hamlisch. She has two children with her last husband, John Holloway, from whom she was divorced in 2003: 14-year-old Cameron and 13-year-old Beatrice.
