As con artist Holly Sutton (played by future Dynasty star, Emma Samms) makes her way back to Port Charles after a long absence, let's take a look at the background of Luke's "English Rose" and the woman who is possibly Ethan Lovett's mother.
Holly and Luke met during a camping trip during Laura's disappearance. They had a one-night stand. What Luke didn't know was that Holly had arranged to meet him. She was part of an oil scam and was planning to get a lot of money from unsuspecting citizens of Port Charles. Luke didn't believe that Holly was a con artist and went out of his way to prove that she was innocent. Holly finally admitted the truth.
Holly then aided Luke in breaking up the scam, and as a result, she was kidnapped. Robert Scorpio and Luke went to Canada to not only rescue Holly, but to recover the money that had been stolen. Luke realized that he could never trust Holly, and they broke up after a very bad argument. Luke went on a trip to the mountains. He was believed to be killed in an avalanche. In fact, his back was broken, and he was in a mountain hospital. Holly learned that she was pregnant with Luke's baby. Robert offered to marry her and help her raise Luke's child, on top of which, she was about to be deported.
Holly and Robert married, but Holly miscarried. Then Luke reappeared. By this time, Holly and Robert were in love. Luke was hurt. After all, he counted Robert as his best friend. Things picked up for Luke: He was elected mayor, and his beloved Laura returned to Port Charles.
After Anna Devane arrived in Port Charles, she and Holly became friends. Holly found out that Anna and Robert had been partners in WSB. Holly confronted Robert about the details of his relationship with Anna, and couldn't believe what she was hearing - he and Anna were married! Furious, Holly left for London. They did get back together later, and the couple moved to Australia. Holly went first, and before Robert left, he found out about the existence of his daughter with Anna, Robin.
When Robert returned from Australia in 1987, he brought with him the news that Holly died in a plane crash. Robert and Anna married; in 1992, Holly showed up in Port Charles, very much alive. She had been in a coma. Seeing that Anna and Robert were in love, she decided not to put any pressure on Robert.
Robert had divorce papers drawn up so that he and Holly were legally free. When Anna was kidnapped, Robert went after her, and neither one of them ever returned, and both were believed dead. Holly ripped up the divorce papers. She helped Mac care for Robin and also drifted into a relationship with Luke's cousin, Bill Eckert. In 1993, she left Port Charles. She returned briefly in 2006.
