An actor who has had huge success both as a restauranteur and in the PR/Marketing arena, handsome Michael Sutton was 23 when he landed the role of Stone Cates on General Hospital. As has been heavily documented on this site, Stone Cates contracted HIV/AIDS from a drug-addicted girlfriend. He then unknowingly infected his present girlfriend, Robin Scorpio.
The character of Stone was originally raised by his brother John "Jagger" Cates along with his sister after his parents died. Eventually, though, Stone was separated from his brother and sister when Jagger could no longer care for them.
Some years later, Jagger searched for him, and, with the aid of Brenda Barrett, Stone and Jagger were reunited. Jagger became a police officer and eventually, he and his wife, Karen, moved to Chicago. Stone then became involved with Robin, and theirs is one of the great love stories of General Hospital.
Actor Sutton appeared in two AIDS educational films: Sex Unplugged in 1995, and the excellent Positive: A Journey into AIDS, an ABC Afterschool Special.
Today Sutton continues acting and also producing, but he is a highly successful businessman. He owns several restaurants and a PR marketing company, brandSUTTON, which helps restaurants, bars, lounges, and night clubs that want a high-profile public image.
