Patrick Drake didn't want marriage and children - so much so that his girlfriend, Robin Scorpio, decided to go to a sperm bank. Then she realized that, thanks to one of those faulty condoms that were circulating around Port Charles, she was pregnant with Patrick's child.
Patrick's background was not conducive to fatherhood - he had his problems with his own dad, Dr. Noah Drake, an alcoholic. The two have a volatile relationship.
Though Patrick warmed to the idea of being a father, Robin rejected his marriage proposals, refused to move into his apartment, saying over and over that she didn't want him to marry her out of obligation. Eventually she agreed; the first wedding was stopped cold by the arrival of Baby Emma, but the second wedding went off with no problems.
Emma
Patrick fell in love with Baby Emma at first sight; Robin was very ill initially, but Patrick could be there for Emma. Then Robin developed post-partum depression, and Patrick became both father and mother to the new baby. He found he had a gift for parenting; for the former swinger, a perfect evening would become being at home with Robin and Emma. It was something he longed for the entire time that Robin was ill.
A Family at Last
Now that Robin has received treatment and is back home, Patrick's dream has come true. He's started to relax and realize that Robin is recovered, and the family has enjoyed days in the park as well as evenings at home.
For a confirmed bachelor, Patrick is finding family life pretty wonderful.
