"I did not take Kristina," Sam insists to Ric. Ric wants to know why her DNA was all over his bedroom and her footprints outside. Sonny enters the interrogation room. "Where's Kristina? Where did you leave her? What have you done to my daughter?" Sonny demands. "I don't know where your daughter is," Sam says. "Is that why you stole my money? To set up a house?" "No!" Sam says. Sonny wants time alone with Sam. The DA leaves the room. Apparently, Sonny's authority overrides his. Sonny continues his interrogation, trying the understanding approach. "I would never hurt Kristina. It would be like hurting my own child," Sam tells him. "I can't help you." "Keep the money," Sonny says. He tries to demanding albeit nice guy approach. "I swear on the soul of our dead baby, I did not take Kristina," Sam says. Sonny then tries the bully approach. "Why are you doing this to me?" he screams. Alexis enters. "She's not doing it to you; she's doing it to hurt me." Alexis takes her turn with Sam. She uses the sympathy approach, offering to work as Sam's attorney. Sam says, "I'd see Kristina at Kelly's with you, and it was unfair. Your daughter is alive because of me, and you won't let me close to her because you think I'm trash. But Kristina has a good life with you; if I ever did anything to hurt her, it would be like my baby dying all over again."
Officer Murphy brings Jason in to PCPD, declaring that he shot one of Sonny's bodyguards. "Did you find out anything?" Sonny asks. "Just that he was definitely involved," Jason says. Alexis informs Jason that Sam wants to see him.
"I broke into Sonny's house," Sam tells Jason. "I put a ladder up next to the window. I went there to steal money. I knew where the safe was because you showed me." "Why?" he asks. "For an illegal adoption," she replies. "They said if I could come up with $100,000, I could have a baby right away." "Is that why you were talking to that woman in the alley?" he asks. "Yes," she answers. "Sonny would have given you that money," Jason argues. "I know," she says, "but he would have also told you. I wanted to walk back into our life with a baby that no one could ever take away from us. It never occurred to me that Kristina would be in the house. When I was leaving, she was asleep." Sam goes on to say that the woman took her money, but never returned with the baby. She realizes now that she could never have lied about where she got the child, so everything she did was for nothing. Jason wants details of the scam adoption that could help back up her story. Sam writes down the phone number that she had for the woman.
Alexis thinks the bodyguard knew Sam took the baby, so Jason shot him. Ric, Sonny, and Alexis argue about their next approach. "If you want to find Kristina," Sonny advises his brother, "you need to let Sam go. She'll lead us to Kristina." Alexis is afraid to take the chance. Jason enters. "She didn't take Kristina, and I can prove it if you let me out of here." Later, Ric learns that the bodyguard had Sam's number punched up on his cell, and reports this to Jason. Jason re-enters the interrogation room. "No one remembers seeing you with that woman," he tells Sam. "The phone number you gave me is disconnected. I want to hear why Sonny's guard Royal was calling you when I busted him. He had a lot of cash on him. How much of it came from you? Did you pay Royal to help steal Kristina?" Again, Sam denies her culpability.
The woman takes her opportunity to leave the house. But as she gets outside, Sonny yells, "Don't move," and holds a gun on her.
