Rumors and so-called news about General Hospital and other soap operas circulate constantly. That's why on http://generalhospital.about.com, readers are urged to take the stories as rumors or possible news and not fact. Until there is some confirmation, no one knows if these are rumors started by fans, false leads started deliberately or actually true.
Such is the case with the supposed back story concerning Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Kate's cousin Olivia (Lisa LoCicero). The two apparently had an affair back in Bensonhurst that resulted in a child. One rumor is that the child is already in Port Charles - Spinelli. It's possible but doubtful.
The latest rumor is that General Hospital producers are wooing Tom Pelphrey, who played Jonathan Randall on Guiding Light from 2004-2007. Pelphrey is a 26-year-old, two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Younger Actor category.
General Hospital has put out a casting call for a "brooding" twenty-something man; however, a source close to this website states that casting has not yet begun for this role. It's unclear whether this description is for the role of Sonny's son or for someone else.
ABC does not respond to rumors, but another publication suggests that General Hospital has no intention of hiring Pelphrey. Rather, the producers hope to threaten Steve Burton (Jason), who may not be renewing his contract, into staying on.
With soaps being constricted by ever-tightening budgets, one wonders if there is such a role why the producers wouldn't consider an unknown. After all, Ingo Rademacher was an unknown, and look how that turned out. If Burton leaves, use his salary to...I don't know, keep Laura on?
Stay tuned.
