One of the big General Hospital 2008 events took place when Sonny joins forces with the Zacchara family when Jason won't let him back into the organization he gave him. Now married to Claudia in name only, it will be interesting to see how long the "name only" lasts, and what Sonny is going to do with all that new-found power. Also, is he going to find out that Claudia is responsible for the shooting of his son? Or was she? It is rumored that General Hospital will be rewriting history with this one.
Kelly's Burns to the Ground
Kelly's has been an institution in Port Charles for decades, originally owned by Rose Kelly and taken over by Luke and Bobbie's Aunt Ruby. It passed into their hands when she died. In 2008, some Russians burst in and burned the place down, beating up poor Mike Corbin while they were at it! Sonny has promised to rebuild. Who can imagine Port Charles without Kelly's?
Little Jake is Kidnapped
After the murder of Karpov by Sonny, the mob war escalates. Fearing that Elizabeth and her children are in danger, Jason wants them to get out of the line of fire. The kids, Sam, and Elizabeth wind up in an isolated cabin, where they have to shoot it out with attacking Russians. Elizabeth then realizes that Jake, Jason's son, has been kidnapped. The kidnappers make it fairly obvious where they are hiding the boy to lure Jason to the location and then set off a bomb. Sam is able to get inside the building and go out a back window with Jake, but just barely, as Jason watches the place explode. Believing his son to be inside, Jason, in a dramatic moment, screams his son's name repeatedly.
Another Member of the Family
Sonny Corinthos doesn't have enough relatives, it seems. Now we learn that he has an adult son living in Brooklyn, and that his mother is Kate's cousin, Olivia. She of course might have the hots for Sonny, but she moves and heaven and earth to keep him from finding out that he has a son. She doesn't want Dante (that's his
name) to be involved in the family business. The only person who knows her secret is Kate Howard (real name: Connie Falconeri), and while she is recovering in the hospital from her gunshot wound, she thinks all bets are off and that she should be able to tell Sonny the truth. Now that she knows that Sonny is back in the mob and had sex with Carly in a limousine, she's broken off their relationship and doesn't seem to care if he knows or not. Sonny, however, will
find out, and we will have another member of the growing Corinthos family roaming Port Charles. At this point, Sonny still wants Kate back in his life. Wonder what will happen when he realizes she kept this from him.
Mob King for a Day
In a great comedic turn, the father of Max and Milo (Derk and Drew Cheetwood, the famous mobster Maximus Giambetti, came to visit his sons in Port Charles. For the role of Maximus, General Hospital cast actor Vincent Pastore (formerly of The Sopranos) as Maximus. Max confesses to Jason before his father arrives that Big Max thinks that he, and not Jason, is running the organization. Jason plays along when Big Max arrives, letting Max sit at his desk. One of the first things that happens is that Maximus orders Jason to change his clothes and show some respect for the boss! Thankfully for Little Max, Jason is a good sport. Little Max, however, isn't thrilled when Big Max takes a shine to his girlfriend Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) and gives her a pinch. Though Big Max figures out the truth about his son, he swears Jason to secrecy.
