A Normal Life at First
Tony Jones was a nice, normal guy and a loving father for most of his life. He and his first wife, Tania, had B.J., and after Tania died in a car accident, Tony asked Lucy Coe for help in caring for the child. He and Lucy married, but it was short-lived. It was while recovering from a debilitating accident that Tony met nurse Bobbie Spencer. The two fell in love and married. Tony adopted Bobbie's son Lucas.
Lucas, however, had been purchased on the black market. When his real mother, Cheryl Stansbury, tracked him down, she wanted her son back. However, Lucas was left with Tony and Bobbie after Cheryl became terminally ill and died.
That was kind of the end of Tony Jones' "normal" life because the happy marriage with Bobbie was about to come to an end. He found out that Bobbie was having an affair with Damian Smith.
B.J.'s Death
The day that Tony learned of Bobbie's affair, their daughter B.J. was in a school bus accident and pronounced brain dead. Her heart was transplanted into Maxie Jones. Who can forget the sight of Tony with his ear against Maxie's chest, listening to his daughter's heart - a haunting moment.
Then Carly Roberts arrived in Port Charles. Unaware that she was Bobbie's daughter, and unhappy about Bobbie's affair with Damian Smith, Tony had an affair with Carly. It leads to divorce, and a lot of unhappiness with Carly.
Tony Veers Out of Control
Tony snapped. When they split up, Carly was pregnant with Jason's child (or so everyone was told; in reality, the child was A.J.'s). In Tony's mind, the baby was his. Tony kidnapped little Michael. Though Alexis Davis managed to get him acquitted, Tony lost custody of Lucas.
Slowly but surely, Tony returned to normal. He formed a good friendship with Bobbie and got unlimited visitation with Lucas. When he learned that Lucas was gay, Tony was loving and supportive to him, and told Lucas that he was very proud of him.
Tony died of encephalitis shortly after speaking with Lucas. At his deathbed were Bobbie, Lucas, and his ex-brother-in-law, Luke. As he was dying, Tony saw B.J. waiting for him.
