As soap operas head toward the November sweeps, the writers of General Hospital seems to be leading the way in plot twists and intriguing storylines. Though they have already been mentioned on this site, these reputed spoilers deserve some expansion and analysis.
Of the three main plots, two at least involve - guess who - Sonny Corinthos. As far as the third storyline, we still don't have enough information. The one that's been circulating the longest is that Sonny had a son by someone (Olivia perhaps) in Bensonhurst. This boy, named Dante, was raised by Nonno. Now, does this mean double duty for Bradford Anderson as both Spinelli and Dante? Or is Spinelli Dante? Or is Dante a differen actor altogether? Also, this is a secret that Kate has kept all these years. Devil's advocate: If Spinelli is Dante and was raised in Bensonhurst, did he ever see Olivia? If so, didn't he recognize her at the wedding? She was pretty obvious parading down the aisle. And quite significantly - Olivia promises Kate that she will never reveal her secret. If Olivia had Sonny's child, why is it Kate's secret and not Olivia's secret? Interesting question. While we're at it, let's get this straight - Sonny had sex in the limo with Carly, kept it from Kate, and Kate was devastated when she found out. Sonny has a son, and Kate kept it from him. Miss Pot, Meet Kettle!
The next twist is both a new rumor and an outrageous one: Since we now realize that Kate and Sonny did not get married, Sonny may marry Claudia in an arranged deal to infiltrate the Zacchara family, take back his power and avenge the man who shot his bride to be. Davil's advocate: One spoiler had Sonny telling Jason that he wanted his business back. Did Jason say no? And if he did, why did he? If Jason no longer had the business, he would be free to be with Elizabeth. He never wanted Sonny's organization in the first place. Why, then, is it necessary for Sonny to get cozy with the Zacchara family? Why not become head of his organization again and stomp all over Zacchara?
The third spoiler is right out of Lost and is a popular story-telling method these days. There will be a funeral in Port Charles. However, though we see the funeral in November 2008, the funeral actually takes place in 2009 - and all next year leads up to that funeral. Whose funeral is it? One rumor says Karpov, who is supposed to die. Devil's advocate: Can a compelling storyline be built around the death of Karpov? Or is it a character with more history on the show, one whom the audience has more of an investment?
We'll know the answers soon enough! In the meantime, it's fun to speculate.
