Little Girl Lost

By , About.com Guide

Robin was diagnosed with HIV after her boyfriend became ill. In the mid-1990s, the character of Robin Scorpio, played by Kimberly McCullough, was seeing Stone Cates (Michael Sutton). Stone became ill; it later was discovered that he had full-blown AIDS. Robin needed to be tested. Since the character of Robin Scorpio began on General Hospital as a little girl, viewers weren't surprised when her HIV test was negative.

A Twist in the Story

However, Robin later came down with the flu, and a second test revealed that she was HIV-positive. It fell on Alan Quartermaine to tell her.

This storyline was a major shock to viewers, as the news was to the character of Robin. Robin was fortunate to live in a time when she could get on the AIDS "cocktail." Today she still grapples with the disease but has a low viral load, thanks to compliance with her medications.

Robin, Patrick, and Pregnancy

When Robin became pregnant by Patrick Drake, she became concerned over the HIV status of her baby. She did extensive research and took steps to insure that she would not pass on the disease to the new baby. When Emma Drake was born, she was tested for HIV and found to be free of the virus.
